How many platforms is your business on? Are you do

How many platforms is your business on? Are you doing them all well?⠀

All too often, businesses try to do too much. Facebook & Instagram are usually the first two, but then they hear that Pinterest would be great for their business. ⠀
⠀
Then they get asked “Are you on Linked In?” ⠀
⠀
Or Twitter?⠀
Or Snapchat?⠀
Or Tik Tok for goodness sake!?!⠀
⠀
So here’s my tip: Don’t spread yourself too thinly. ⠀
⠀
If you are nailing Instagram and Facebook, then for sure - try out something else. But if you already don’t have enough time - guess what? You’re going to have less the more platforms you get on. ⠀
⠀
So pick what is going to work best for you and your business and run with that. You’re better off doing two platforms properly than doing a crappy job with five. ⠀
⠀

Blonde? Brunette? Tall? Funny? Smart? Sorry I digress. I’m talking about content types. ⠀⠀

In my book, there are 5 different types of social media content types. Every time you post your content should have a purpose, and that purpose should fall into one of these categories...⠀⠀
⠀⠀
1. Converse - ask questions, get engaged, start a conversation with your followers/potential customers. It’s all about building that all important engagement to show Instagram that your post is important!⠀
⠀⠀
2. Entertain - show some personality, make someone laugh, show your lighter side! Resonate with your audience to build a relationship with them. ⠀⠀
⠀
3. Inform - teach your audience something, either about your product. Talk about features, the design process, or about how you got started. ⠀
⠀
4. Inspire/motivate- give your followers a lift! Motivate them towards improving themselves, their lives, their homes. If it’s as a result of buying from you then that’s even better 😉 Show them images of your products in use and being enjoyed. ⠀

5. Promote - yep, this is just one of the five content types. Truth is, people don’t respond to being sold to all the time so this is just part of the puzzle. When you do a promotional post don’t go hard on the sales pitch either. Instead, focus more on how you solve their problems and fulfil their needs. ⠀
⠀⠀
I hope this helps you! When planning out your social posts (which you really should do) have these types written down and tick them off as you go along. Ideally you cover all these throughout the week. Easy!

I'm on my phone far too much... I admit it. My husband hates it, but I have semi-legitimate reasons for it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Firstly, I run half my business from my phone. I work in social media - duh!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's also my connection to my world and my network. I'm a mum that works from home; I don't spend a lot of time with other adults so I seek those connections online, be it personal or business related.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And finally, it provides me with a little bit of escape. When it's all I bit much I sometimes sit down with my phone and play a stupid mind-numbing game and it kind of gives me a mini-break. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I've been very, very inconsistent with my social media over the past 6 months or so. The result? A massive drop in engagement, reach and followers have also dropped off.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In recent weeks I decided I was going to make a concerted effort to pick things back up again. I had a plan and I was keen to see the results. So this is what I did...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. I posted every day⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. I created content purposefully - pretty pictures with half-a$$ed captions were not going to cut it⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. I refreshed my hashtag lists⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. I made a big effort to proactively engage with lots of accounts - that means I followed businesses I thought would make great clients and engaged with them ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. I posted to Instagram stories (but not enough - that was the one thing I didn't quite do properly)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Results?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Followers ↗↗↗↗⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Engagement: Heading in the right direction⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Overall social presence: 👌👌👌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Nope. More like Instagram’s more popular cousin that may not have the looks but still draws everyone to them far more than Instagram does. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What am I on about? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Basically I want to remind you why you have to pay as much attention to Facebook as you do Instagram. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes - it’s harder to get interaction. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes - to get lots of eyes on your posts you have to fork out a few $$. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But - it’s where all the cool kids (aka your customers) are hanging out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your Facebook page is also like an alternative website; how many times have you looked up a business on Facebook before going to their actual website? For me, it’s A LOT. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Facebook groups are also a great place for networking and getting free exposure for your business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So don’t forget about our old friend Facebook. She might not be as pretty to look at as Instagram but still gets a lot of attention.

The fab folks over at @theshowerheadstore were feeling a bit stuck when it came to what to post on their social media 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀

They were struggling with captions - what on earth do you write about showers every day? 🚿⠀
